Marriage at St Luke's is usually possible if you meet one of the following criteria:

• You live within the parish boundaries.

• You are a regular worshipper at the church.

• You have a strong family or work connection to the parish.

If one or both of you has been divorced, our clergy will meet with you to discuss your previous marriage and the needs of any children involved. If the clergy are happy to proceed, you can be married at St Luke’s under the same qualifying conditions mentioned above.

If one partner belongs to a non-Christian faith, it is often still possible to marry at St Luke's. Please note that the ceremony will be a traditional Christian service.

The ‘Calling of Banns’ is a legal requirement in the Church of England. It is a formal announcement of your intention to marry, read out during our main Sunday service on three consecutive Sundays within the three months before your wedding day.

Banns must be called in the parish where each of you lives, as well as in the church where the marriage will take place. This means if you live in our parish but are getting married elsewhere, you still need to have your Banns read here at St Luke’s.

Your Next Steps:

1. Check your Parish: Confirm you reside in St Luke’s Parish by checking the A Church Near You website.

2. Request a Form: Contact the St Luke's Parish Office to obtain a Banns application form.

3. Submit & Pay: Return the completed form along with the statutory Banns fee (set by the Church of England).

4. Join us for the Reading: We invite you to attend our main 10.30 am Sunday service on at least one (or all three!) of the occasions when your Banns are read.

5. Collect your Certificate: Once the Banns have been read for the third time, you can collect your certificate from the Parish Office.

6. Hand it Over: Give this certificate to the member of clergy performing your marriage ceremony before your wedding day.
