Music
Music is central to our prayer life at St Luke’s. We cherish the Anglican choral tradition, and our robed choirs are currently in an exciting phase of growth.
Parish Choir
Our dedicated adult choir leads the singing at the 10:30am Parish Eucharist and special services throughout the year. We are a small, friendly group always keen to welcome new voices—no audition required, just an ability to hold a tune and a commitment to Sunday mornings.
We meet to prepare our music before the service each week:
Regular Sundays: Rehearsal at 9:45 am for the 10:30 am service.
First Sunday of the Month: A combined rehearsal with our Junior Choir at 8:45 am before we all sing together at the 9:30 am All-Age Service.
Junior Choir (ages 7+)
Growing the next generation. Over the last 12 months, we have relaunched our children's choir, offering local children a free musical education and the chance to earn pocket money as they progress. Our young choristers play a vital role in our Sunday morning worship, gaining confidence through performance. We maintain a focused but fun schedule to ensure our music is ready for the congregation:
Regular Sundays: Rehearsals begin at 8:30 am for our 9:00 am Family Service.
First Sunday of the Month: A slightly later start with rehearsals at 8:45 am for our 9:30 am All-Age Service.
No experience necessary. All lessons are led by Derek, our director of music. All adults are DBS checked and have undergone safeguarding training.
Special Choral Services & Seasonal Events
Beyond our weekly Sunday worship, the choir lies at the heart of our major seasonal celebrations—most notably during Advent and Christmas.
For these major festivals, our regular choir is wonderfully boosted by guest singers from the local area. Whether you are someone who used to sing in a choir but no longer has the time for a weekly commitment, or you simply love singing carols and want to be part of something truly special, we would love to welcome you. Joining us for a festival is a fantastic, low-commitment way to dip your toe back into choral singing and experience the joy of our busiest time of year.
We will post specific seasonal rehearsal dates and opportunities to join us right here on this page as these events approach.
